Consumers who desire cannabidiol, and only cannabidiol, are well advised to buy products whose CBD derives synthetically from a source that is not the cannabis plant. Complete removal of residual tetrahydrocannabinol (and pesticide and soil contaminants) from source cannabis is virtually impossible by current extraction means. This is true of ordinary cannabis sativa and of hemp, its industrial cultivar, whose THC content is below the 0.3% threshold for legal cultivation.
Consumers unconcerned about residual THC do face lack of clarity on how much remains, particularly in the different types of hemp and CBD oils that are on the market. The components within them depend on what part of the plant is used for extraction. In the flowers and leaves, there are varying amounts of phytocannabinoids like CBD and THC, and as terpenoids, like β-caryophyllene and limonene. Cannabis seeds contain little or no cannabinoids, but are rich in omega-6 and omega-3 essential fatty acids, γ-linolenic acid, and other antioxidant nutrients. Oils are sometimes marketed as ‘full-spectrum’ formulas, and may contain additional phytocannabinoids or terpenoids from other sources, such as cloves, hops, ashwagandha, or turmeric. These are sold typically for sleep aid, pain relief, or stress reduction. Because their ingredients also vary, as do their dosage amounts and their method of administration, it is difficult to know which ingredients actually help with which collection of symptoms.
Hemp seed oils contain no THC, and very little CBD. CBD oils, deriving from hemp flowers and leaves, contain mostly CBD and β-caryophyllene, with lesser amounts of other phytocannabinoids and terpenoids. They contain small amounts of THC. Their CBD levels are higher than in the average cannabis plant (12-18%), and often enriched after extraction to be higher still. ‘Cannabis oils’ contain mostly THC (often as high as 80%), and comparatively low levels of CBD (10-15%), along with other cannabinoids and terpenoids.
DiolPure products contain PureForm CBD™ transformed from aromatic terpenes for pharmaceutical-grade purity. PureForm CBD™ is bioidentical to CBD extracted from hemp and cannabis, but free of any residual cannabinoids like THC or impurities or chemicals that can associate with traditional plant-derived production processes.
